ALICE COOPER, STOOGES, JAMES GANG, JETHRO TULL, SMALL FACES, CHICAGO, MOUNTAIN, MITCH RYDER, BOB SEGER and many others at the 1970 Goose Lake Music Festival. He Goose Lake International Music Festival was held in August of 1970. Billed as the Woodstock of the Midwest, was one of the largest music events of its era. It was held in Leoni Township Michigan, near Detroit.

It featured many of the local acts like James Gang with Joe Walsh, The Stooges, MC 5, Mitch Ryder and Bob seger as well as many national and international acts like Chicago, Jethro Tull and Small Faces with Rod Stewart. An estimated 200,000 rock music fans attended the festival. The initial attitude of the "young, hip police force" toward the fans in attendance was to "leave them alone", at least when they were inside the festival grounds. The festival was known for widespread, openly visible drug sales and public nudity.
